About Oran P. Smith...
Oran P. Smith, PhD has developed a reputation as a trusted adviser and public policy advocate during his many years of service in the Palmetto State. He is currently a member of the board and Senior Fellow at Palmetto Promise Institute. His prior service includes 17 years as President of Palmetto Family Council, COO of the SC Business & Industry Political Education Committee. Dr. Smith also served as a regional director in the Office of the Governor. Oran holds a PhD in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Carolina and has also studied at Clemson and George Washington University. He has served on the Board of Trustees for Coastal Carolina University since its independence in 1993 where he chairs the Academic Affairs Committee. A native of Greer, Dr. Smith has authored numerous books and publications.

Dr. Smith has written award-winning books and public policy analyses, run successful political campaigns, and served as an advisor to scores of members of the General Assembly on every issue on the front burner today: energy, education, tax reform, healthcare, and even moral, social and legal issues. Dr. Smith holds a Master's degree in Public Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in American Government.
